My Massage Gift Certificates & Spa Package Specials for The Holidays

"Hello! Welcome to my blog site!
I would like to introduce myself, as I feel it is important for you to know who I am before choosing me as your massage professional. My name is Heather Hixon, I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2001. I still enjoy my work very much, and my clients can feel it."

• As my massage client, I hope you will always feel taken care of and respected. I see your massage appointment as your "time to unwind" (Talking is not neccesary).

•I have so much compassion for those who have muscular discomfort. In 2001 I was in a pretty intense rear-end collision. My neck has never been quite the same, however, I went for treatments from my chiropractor (Dr. Christopher Jordan) immediately and received weekly Neuromuscular Massage treatments from my friend and therapist Judy W.

•I believe everything happens for a reason; for this started my study of Trigger Point Therapy, which is my passion. I am amazed at how this one modality plus my regular yoga practice has healed my body, as well as my clients.

•I offer the following modalities in massage and bodywork:

Neuromuscular Massage: Therapeutic treatment for areas of the body such as back & neck with specific needs, often considered “Deep Massage”.

Aromatherapy: The combination of aromatic essences with massage is a marriage made in heaven. Both are a function of natural healing, restoring balance to the body and mind, and bringing about a sense of well-being.

•I have created over 20 aromatic blends, specifically designed to sooth your symptoms away. I blend my essential oils with 100% Organic Jojoba Oil which is very moisturizing and will not stain your garments.

Swedish Massage: A classical European Massage of gentle manipulation of the muscles to improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, and create an over feeling of relaxation and well-being.

Trigger Point Therapy with Neuromuscular: Using advanced concepts in pressure therapy to break up the stress & tension in hyper-contracted points in the muscle; this allows the circulation to increase bringing fresh oxygenated blood & nutrients to the trigger points.

Chair Massage ~ On-site: Turn a conference room into a stress-busting oasis with a calming Aromatherapy Seated Chair Massage session. Unwind in a comfortable massage chair and let the stress melt away while you receive professional massage therapy from Heather who will massage a blend of lavender and blue palmerosa into your arms and neck. 10-20 minutes of massage therapy will release the tension in your back, neck, shoulders to leave you refreshed.

Reiki Treatment: Healing Energy Treatment with Chakra balancing.

Breathing for Relaxation

By Claudia Cummins (an article I found on www.YogaJournal.com)
Beginning students often ask for instructions on the "right" way to breathe. Alas, there's no single answer to that question, since the optimal breathing pattern at any given moment depends on the type of practice. Restorative yoga focuses solely on relaxation, though, and emphasizes breathing that creates calm and serene states of being. When you settle into restorative poses, try the following techniques for cultivating breathing patterns that are hallmarks of relaxation and well-being.
MOVE THE BELLY WITH THE BREATH. When we are at ease, the diaphragm is the primary engine of the breath. As we inhale, this domelike muscle descends toward the abdomen, displacing the abdominal muscles and gently swelling the belly. As we exhale, the diaphragm releases back toward the heart, enabling the belly to release toward the spine.
KEEP THE UPPER BODY QUIET. During high-stress times, it's common to heave the upper chest and grip the muscles in the shoulders and throat. When we're at rest, the muscles of the upper chest remain soft and relaxed as we breathe, and the real work occurs in the lower rib cage. To promote this type of breathing pattern, consciously relax the jaw, throat, neck, and shoulders, and envision the breath sweeping into the deepest parts of the lungs as you breathe in and out.
BREATHE EASY. Although some breaths may be deeper or faster than others, when we're relaxed, the alternating rhythm of the inhalations and exhalations feels like a lullaby—smooth, soft, and uninterrupted by jerks and jags. Consciously relaxing into this wavelike, oceanic quality of the breath deepens our sense of peace and ease.
LENGTHEN THE EXHALATIONS. When we feel stressed, our exhalations tend to grow short and choppy. When we're relaxed, though, the exhalations extend so completely that they are often longer than the inhalations. Some teachers even instruct that if we're deeply relaxed, each exhalation will be twice as long as the inhalation. To facilitate this, try gently extending each exhalation by one or two seconds.
PAUSE AFTER EACH EXHALATION. In our most relaxed state, the end of each exhalation is punctuated by a short pause. Lingering in this sweet spot can be deeply satisfying and can evoke feelings of profound quiet and stillness.
LET THE WHOLE BODY BREATHE. When we are at ease, the whole body participates in the breathing process. Imagine a sleeping baby: When he breathes in and out, the belly swells and releases, the hips rock to and fro, the shoulders bob, and the spine gently undulates. This offers a mini-massage for the muscles and organs of the whole body, and turns each breath into a soothing melody that further calms and quiets every cell within.

Exercising Flexibility - Mind Stretching

Flexibility is the capacity to bend without breaking, as well as a continual willingness to change or be changed in order to accommodate new circumstances.
People with flexible minds are open to shifting their course when necessary or useful; they are not overly attached to things going the way they had planned. This enables them to take advantage of opportunities that a more rigid person would miss out on. It can also make life a lot more fun.
When we are flexible, we allow for situations we could not have planned, and so the world continues to surprise and delight us. Since reality is in a constant state of flux, it doesn’t make sense to be rigid or to cling to any one idea of what is happening or what is going to happen. We are more in tune with reality when we are flexible. Being in tune enables us to adjust to the external environment and other people as they change and grow. When we are rigid or stuck in our ways, instead of adjusting to the world around us we hunker down, clinging to a concept of reality rather than reality itself. When we do this, we cut ourselves off from life, and we miss out on valuable opportunities, as well as a lot of joy.
Just as we create flexibility in our bodies by stretching physically, we can create limberness in our minds by stretching mentally. Every day we have the opportunity to exercise our flexibility. We can do this in small ways such as :
  • Taking a different route home from work or changing our exercise routine.
  • On a larger scale, we can rearrange the furniture or redo a room in our house.
  • If these are things we already do regularly, we can stretch our minds by imagining several different possibilities for how the next year will unfold.
  • As we do this, our minds become more supple and open, and when changes come our way, we are able to accommodate and flow with the new reality.

An article by one of my yoga students / yoga teacher

Yoga Teacher Coaching Now Available in Jacksonville Beach

Yoga Teacher Training programs are abundant in the Jacksonville area, but what do you do if you hold a certificate, but still don’t feel ready to teach? This, as it turns out is not an uncommon scenario. For some it’s a question of nerves, for others it’s feeling unable to articulate the postures well enough to lead a group. Lack of confidence is a common denominator, but how does one gain the confidence when they are reluctant to lead a class? Repeating the training is a huge expense and commitment of time that most are unable to afford and “refresher” courses are not available.
When Heather Hixon of Renaissance Wellness Center heard this dilemma described, her innate willingness to help, coupled with her desire to spread her love of Yoga, forced her to act. She decided to offer to coach students to enable them to gain the confidence and skills they needed to lead a class. Heather has received her Core Essentials Life Coaching training from Coach U. She is a certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher trained at Discovery Yoga and has been teaching hatha yoga since 2001, as well as practicing yoga most of her life.
Her coaching clients say they noticed improvement in their confidence after just two sessions! Heather is offering her practice teach / coaching sessions by appointment on Thursday mornings from 10-11:00am.

Honor the Beginning

Beginnings can be delicate or explosive. They can start almost invisibly or arrive with a big bang. Beginnings hold the promise of new lessons to be learned, new territory to be explored, and old lessons to be recalled, practiced, and appreciated. Beginnings hold ambiguity, promise fear and hope.
Don’t let lessons, the experiences of the past; dampen your enthusiasm for beginnings. Just because it’s been hard doesn’t mean it will always be that difficult. Don’t let the heartbreaks of the past cause you to become cynical, close you off to life’s magic and promise. Open yourself wide to all that the Universe has to say.
Let yourself begin anew. Pack your bags. Choose carefully what you bring, because packing is an important ritual. Take along some humility and the lessons of the past. Toss in some curiosity and excitement about what you haven’t yet learned. Say your good-byes to those you’re leaving behind. Don’t worry who you will meet or where you will go. The way has been prepared. The people you are to meet will be expecting you. A new journey has begun. Let be magical. Let it unfold.

All parts of the journey are sacred and holy.
Take time now to honor the beginning.
